We build more than custom cottages. We build coastal cottage communities!
After moving from two different large metropolitan areas, we decided to try the more composed life of a small town environment. Southport and, especially, The Cottages at Southport more than meet our expectations. A beautifully arranged community, superbly built cottage homes and a wonderful group of neighbors have assured us of our wise decision.

We have owned numerous houses over the years and we must say that our “golden years” home built by The Cottage Building Company, in The Cottages at Southport, is as elegant, spacious, and inviting as any. It is difficult to list all of the reasons we are so very pleased with our new cottage home. However, one major reason is the exquisite, extensive, well-planned landscaping. When we closed on our cottage, the house looked as if it has been in place for seasons and could be displayed on the cover of Better Homes and Gardens.
The second reason is the customization of our home. Every request we had was woven into an existing plan and the designer made numerous thoughtful suggestions. It was an easy, tension-free process. The end product is ours alone and is unique to any other in the community.
Another reason is the detailed workmanship. The cottage-style doors and window frames, bead-board accents, and plantation shutters lend themselves to a classic, historic era. We have a large, welcoming front porch, spacious screened back porch, handsome hardwood floors, luscious granite, complementing tile, airy bathrooms, and a huge walk-in closet. Both cars and our golf-cart fit perfectly in the roomy garage.f
We definitely made a wise decision when we built at The Cottages at Southport and are enjoying the benefits of that decision daily.

We’re thrilled about not only the home (which is huge), but also the location, the community, and starting this new chapter in our lives. Finding The Cottages at Southport has put it all together.

There’s always a little anxiety associated with moving–even if it is to a place that’s a little piece of heaven. In our case, that location is Southport and our neighborhood is The Cottages at Southport.
When we moved from Columbus, Ohio to Southport, we left behind our two adult children and our five grandchildren. We had a little trepidation initially, but from the moment we turned the key and walked into our beautifully built cottage home, by The Cottage Building Company, we knew we made the right decision!
Our neighborhood is a mixture of backgrounds and ages. At first glance you recognize this as an active community of people who enjoy walking, riding bikes, and spending sunny days at the beach. Walking along, you’ll notice each home speaks to the individuality that is encouraged in this unique cottage community.
Get-togethers with neighbors or a conversation while on an evening stroll have strengthened and enhanced the sense of belonging and being a part of something special! Relaxing on the front porch rocker or swing takes us back to a time when neighborhoods highlighted neighbors talking with one another; simple conversation and common interests took place among folks who weren’t related but helped one another, and ultimately became the friends you could count on. We’ve already experienced this in our neighborhood–further validating our choice to build here and call it home! Cottage living inspires the good things in life and we’re grateful to experience that reflection daily, having chosen The Cottages at Southport. And this is just in the neighborhood.
Walk the streets of Southport and you immediately feel the charm and the history come to life at the Cape Fear waterfront. Eating at Fishy Fishy, Frying Pan, Provisions, Yacht Basin, or Cape Fear Restaurant and watching boats skim across the water while the sea breeze surrounds you, combine, to bring you the ambiance of the area and a sense of all good things that come with vacationed neighbors talking with one another; simple conversation and common interests took place among folks who weren’t related but helped one another out, and ultimately became friends you could count on. We’ve already experienced this in our neighborhood–further validating our choice to build here and call it home! Cottage living inspires the good things in life and we’re grateful to experience that reflection daily having chosen The Cottages at Southport.
Southport also boasts a Mecca for local artistry. Watercolors, oils, stained glass, jewelry, and pottery are all on display for purchase or just to admire at one of the many boutique shops along the downtown streets. New and/or consignment clothing and furniture stores are also on the walk through town, and deserving of your time whether just browsing or buying. Supporting local business is a way of thinking that most folks here seem to respect and consider a privilege. Southport attracts and welcomes tourists, offering enough beauty, history, art, shopping, eating, and relaxing for ALL to enjoy, whether visiting or calling it home.
The Cottages at Southport and life in Southport are pivotal to enjoying life and experiencing relaxation and a sense of peace that may have escaped you in another world. Harmony in this world is reachable and lends credibility to what it means to be “blessed.”
