Southport Fire Department Honored with Gold Award by Fire Chief Magazine

Recently the residents and fire department of Southport were honored by receiving the Gold Award from Fire Chief Magazine for the design of their new fire headquarters building. There were 70 different fire houses highlighted in this year’s magazine so Southport should be extremely proud of their new fire headquarters receiving the top award. Southport is still an all volunteer fire department. The city is fortunate enough to have enough volunteers that can respond to emergencies 24 hours a day. But as the city grows eventually a paid staff will have to take over soon of the responsibilities and the new station was designed to accommodate them. Also incorporated into the new fire house is an emergency operations center. The Operations Center was put into use when hurricane Irene came up the coast this past summer. The people of Southport have plenty of reason to be proud of their new fire headquarters which will give them many years of use.​
